OH, CARDIFF! I almost burned out after Portishead. Up until this point, I had been running these events back-to-back every four days. By the time I arrived in Wales, I was a shell of the person who had started the tour, full of energy and excitement.

I gave myself some time here to really take in something I had been missing on my journey: community.

I found myself in Penarth, just outside the city, where I joined the Dawnstalkers for their daily sunrise dips. These beautiful souls held me, and I got to experience that wonderfully warm and welcoming Welsh hospitality. It was time for me to receive, to take stock, and to figure out a new plan for moving forward.

The tour would now evolve in so many ways, starting with a weekly schedule that gave me more time for myself and less pressure to constantly deliver. Gifting myself this time not only benefited my mental health, but also gave me experiences that would prove invaluable in shaping the events still to come.

For this piece, I limited the palette to vibrant neon colours and primed the background with a sunrise-inspired wash. It came from those quiet, meditative mornings: dipping in the sea as the sun rose and watching the sky light up in pink and orange.

I remember marvelling at the geese migrating overhead in their perfect V formations, silhouetted against the majesty of the Penarth sunrise.

My mind was at peace.
