Mikey’s Bee is a very special piece indeed.

While I was in Thurso, I met the lovely Allana, who works for Mikey’s Line, a suicide prevention charity named in memory of a young lad called Mikey, who sadly is no longer with us.

Mikey had two bee tattoos on his knees, which became the emblem for the organisation. It now stands as a symbol of the incredible and life-saving work they do in supporting people through dark times.

Allana collaborated with me at the Thurso event and also during my time in Inverness. She kindly arranged for me to spend a couple of days at a market promoting Splat & Splash, where I created the background of this artwork with the help of Christmas shoppers passing by. She also invited me to Mikey’s Line anniversary Christmas party, where I hosted a pop-up silent disco in a busy shopping centre.

Someone suggested painting a bee for this piece, it instantly felt right.

I think we can all agree, it was a very good idea. :)

YOUTH ART CONNECT CIC - Introducing the therapeutic benefits of art to children & adults.

Each beach of the tour will have a collaborative canvas, splatted and splashed with colour by the community who attend. The next day, I’ll respond to it with my own painting. 

By the end of the tour, I’ll have at least 30 originals, each holding the energy and story of that gathering. They will then be exhibited in a London charity gala at the end of the tour. The show will then travel for a few weeks reaching North, East & West of England. I will also take the show to  Wales & Scotland. This way everyone who took part will have a chance to see the art.
